Bongbong is ‘VP-elect,’ not Leni

Tuesday, May 24, 2016

A lawyer of Senator "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Tuesday asked the camp of Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo cannot claim victory as the congressional canvassing of votes has not started yet.

"Siguro kung ang basehan n'ya ay ang unofficial tally, papayag din ako but dun sa official tally which is the certificate of canvass, I would say it should be Senator Marcos who should be called vice president-elect. So watch out for the canvass," lawyer Jose Amorado told reporters in Manila.

Robredo's lawyer, Romulo Macalintal, has said the congresswoman should now be addressed as presumptive vice president-elect since their internal tally of all 166 certificates of canvass showed her winning the tight race by some 260,000 votes.

Marcos' camp said last week that the senator was up by more than 100,000 votes based on 100 out of 108 COCs from provinces and chartered cities nationwide.

Congress will convene as the National Board of Canvassers on Tuesday. It is expected to start canvassing votes for president and vice president this week.

The congressional body is expected to proclaim the winners of the presidential and vice presidential elections ahead of the mandatory change of leadership on June 30
