COMELEC Reassesses Disqualification Case Versus Duterte!

Tuesday, May 10, 2016

The First Division of the Comelec dismissed all the disqualification cases filed against last February against Rodrigo Duterte. But apparently, two petitioners filed an appeal for reconsideration of the First Division's decision in dismissing the cases.

“We will study that, but of course, we know that we also have to respect the mandate given to him by the people,” according to Commision on Elections (COMELEC) Chair Andres Bautista when asked about the pending disqualification cases of Duterte could be brushed off considering the fact that he is the apparent and clear winner of the presidential race.

“That (case) has been raffled to a ponente. I guess we (the Commission en banc) need to discuss what to do,”
Commissioner Luie Guia explained the reason for the poll body handling 200 to 300 cases of disqualification against Duterte, and he said “We had to rush almost everything,”

He then added “It’s difficult to run an election, then we still have to decide on cases, so we apologize if the resolutions of some cases were delayed,”

When asked if the decision would be finalized and released before Duterte's proclamation, Guia said that it would be released in due time. “It will come. It will be released, don’t worry about that.”

Only time will tell on what the future may hold for the pending appeal to presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte.
