Comelec to Reopen Disqualification Case Against Duterte

Sunday, May 15, 2016

COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) Chair Andres Bautista said the survey body may consider the command given by the electorate to presidential applicant Rodrigo “Digong” Duterte in determining the pending request on the exclusion bodies of evidence against him.
Voting collectively, the First Division of the Comelec rejected in February all exclusion bodies of evidence documented against Duterte, the extreme talking leader of Davao City. Nonetheless, two of the solicitors documented a bid for reevaluation of the choice.
Bautista said:
“We will study that, but of course, we know that we also have to respect the mandate given to him by the people,” said Bautista when asked if the pending cases against Duterte could already be considered moot and academic now that he was the apparent winner in the presidential race. ‘That (case) has been raffled to a ponente. I guess we (the Commission en banc) need to discuss what to do.”
